Day 2

I saw an adorable little sea otter swimming outside of the window this morning while I was sitting at the cafe.


We were at sea all day today, and Carl and I went exploring 'round about the ship. We mostly ate and sat on the balcony. It was so amazing as we watched a pod of humpbacks go by, spouting their fine mist into the air.


We ate at the International Dining Room for lunch today because we can't eat there in the evening - it's formal Captains Dinners only, which we didn't want to do.



For dinner we dined in the Pacific Moon dining room. Carl's goal is to try somewhere different every night until we've tried them all. This one was originally a Chinese food restaurant and is decorated accordingly. Tomorrow the adventures begin. We're going fishing! This was my favorite excursion when we came 5 years ago. I hope that it's still wonderful, and I hope that we catch some halibut to send home just like we did last time.

Carl's thoughts - I am just glad I didn't get sick. And this 52 degree weather beats 104 any day! I kept going outside just to enjoy the weather.

I journaled every day of the cruise, and I am presenting you with the unedited version here. This may be 100 % for me, but feel free to read it if you want to! When Carl has thoughts I will stick them at the bottom, 'cause it's always fun to hear what he has to say! And if it's too many words just scroll through and look at the pictures - they are great!

Day 1

We are here, arriving safe and sound with no difficulty whatsoever. Customs can be a a pain, but I appreciate them keeping us safe, so I'm ok with it. The ship is beautiful as always,and it is so restful and fun. I miss my kids like crazy, and every child that I see reminds me of them - and yes, at dinner last night I cried - but it is wonderful to be with my husband. I know that it's been 15 years, but he is still my best friend, and I know that we love each other more now than when we married. In a few short years when our kids are grown and married or in college and living on their own I know we will be so thankful that made our marriage a priority. I am so happy that I will have my best friend to spend time with and not a total stranger.

Dinner was beautiful and lovely. We ate in the Savoy dining room, which has bronze and gold mermaids and horses as the decor. I love it that Carl has to dress up, because he would never do it on his own. I told him once that I always dreamed of marrying a man who wore suits to work every day and he laughed and said builders don't do that! Can you picture the scene if he showed up to meet with his contractors in a suit!?!? Haha!

We didn't take pictures of the meal itself, but will do better from now on, because the presentation is so elegant. Carl tried the seafood pate, which he of course didn't like! And then had a ceasar salad and the prime rib. His dessert looked scrumptious, but he didn't really like the chocolate mousse. I had a melon appetizer, porcini mushroom soup (yum!), Fettucine Alfredo and honeydew sorbet.

I love the Alaskan cruise because everywhere you look there is something beautiful and amazing. If you look - really look - at the water there is always something to see. Whales, seals, birds, otters, you name it, its there! I could watch the waves forever.

Today we will be at sea all day, and tonight is formal dinner. There is a Champagne Art Show on the ship which Carl finds massively boring, but I want to go and look at the paintings. Of course, I won't drink their champagne or purchase a painting which might aggravate them, but that's ok! There are also lots of shops, movies, plays and swimming, and there is always the casino should we desire to gamble away all of our money. It's interesting how few people our age are here! It's nice, because often our generation and those a bit younger tend to go a little over board when they are "enjoying" themselves. The ones we do run into tend to be kindred spirits, and are fun to talk to. I laugh, because some of the women on board remind me of Carl's mom. Fearless and confident with absolutely no idea what they are doing or where they are going. It's fun to watch them around the ship - especially when they end up in the completely wrong place and just decide to stay anyway!

Carl is still sleeping, and I am sitting down in the explorers lounge watching the water, and the people. It's fun to guess about their lives, although it's more fun when Carl is with me. I'm going to read Tracie Peterson's Alaska series and relax now. By the way, if you've never read her books you should, you would love them. They are historical fiction romance novels and clean as clean can be. Until tomorrow........
